Vision
The Department of Chemistry endeavors to be an outstanding chemistry department for educating and graduating students based on a comprehensive, rigorous and relevant curriculum in chemical sciences and conducting the state of the art research in the different branches of chemistry. The department values teaching and research as equal and essential components to the education of our students. The department is committed to: effective teaching, high quality research program, student learning and offering up to date curricula commensurate with advanced training in chemistry; producing knowledgeable and inquisitive graduates for careers in academia, industry and government; promoting a diverse population of faculty, staff and students, and promoting the collegial exchange of ideas, independent thoughts, and the high ethical standards. We are committed to demonstrating science as a human endeavor and as a way to understand the natural world.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Chemistry is to advance the chemical sciences in all of its branches by developing and providing quality education, research and service opportunities. We will graduate scientists who are knowledgeable in chemistry, embrace recognized standards of ethical scientific behavior and engage in safe and sustainable chemical practices. Teaching and research activities encompass the training of research students in-depth education at the M.S. level. The department provides for the needs of professional chemists by providing a non-thesis M.S. degree option. The chemistry faculty members are committed to advancing chemical science through publication, the creation of intellectual property, outreach activities, seminars and education of the scientific workforce. The department is committed to creating quality graduate-level research opportunities designed to make involvement in state of the art chemical research and develop collaborative, collegial and cooperative research activities with the community composed of diverse scholars.
